If you use it with the flat side facing the bearing you'll have better luck. these come in a lot of sizes, very small to extremly large. The last one is VERY nice!

Apr 05, 2008 · The ball (like a ball bearing) moves in and out if you push on it and the end that has the ball goes into the detent vavle. The ball is getting a worn place on it and if I remove the bolt the handle will move freely. Once the splitter cools down the handle will move freely even with the bolt screwed in. I change the hydaulic fluid last year.

Using that splitter and a cordless drill with a long 4mm allen wrench chucked in it, my best time to totally disasseble a 346 is just over 10 mins.
